Hi, this is Joanne Kirkland, a civil marriage celebrant based in Brisbane. A Singaporean-born, I am bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese, love junk food (with a Netflix binge), Bikram yoga and strength training
Having sat through many unimpressionable ceremonies, I have always imagined a change in the script one day; to be a MODERN take on cringe-worthy traditional weddings, to have words more reflective of the couple, and to make it FUN for everyone at the wedding!
The last boring ceremony I sat through in 2018 was the last straw – Half an hour of the latest love and marriage quotes that will put even pop and nan’s 60 years of marriage to shame. There was no laughter or tears, and guests were regrettably more engaged with their media feeds.
